The first full week of sales of the Disabled American Veteran silver dollar showed a dramatic slowing of buyer momentum.

During the first three days, sales reached 98,358 coins when you add the proof and uncirculated numbers together. In the following seven days, the sales total rose by just 33,476 pieces to 131,834.

The proof sales total rose by 24,784 to reach 90,993 and the uncirculated total rose by 8,692 to hit 40,841.

If this week’s number is repeated each week, it would take a little more than six weeks to sell out. On the other hand, if the rate of sales continues to slow, it raises the very real possibility that even with a low 350,000 mintage ceiling, collectors won’t be willing to purchase them all.

The Boy Scout commemorative dollar will be competing for collector attention as of March 23. That could further reduce DAV buying interest.
