Graded PMG Gem UNC 66 EPQ, a Series 1905 “Technicolor” $20 Gold Certificate, Fr. 1180, with “brilliant colors, wonderful centering and bold embossing” is a highlight of Lyn Knight Currency Auctions’ lots at the 5th Annual Lenexa International Show and Auction, Dec. 7-9. It’s estimated at $80,000 to $120,000.
The show and sale will be held at the Knight Auction Facility, 14148 Santa Fe Trial Drive, Lenexa, Kan.
Another featured Gold Certificate is an 1882 $500 “Fr. 1216 or Fr. 1217 1882 or 1922” in VF/XF. “How this note occurred and escaped is beyond me, but I know it’s quite a rarity and has been part of this collection for decades,” notes the cataloger. “The second face printing is completely missing. I don’t know where the portrait and serial numbers were printed, but all are missing.” It is further described as either a test note “for the gold ink only or it’s an error.” It’s estimated at $25,000 to $50,000.
