Olympic Commem Selling Out
 | By World Coin News October 05, 2009 |

The race is on to own London 2012 products from the Royal Mint.
The gold proof, silver proof and piedfort proof versions of the Olympic Handover Ceremony coin, marking the official handover of the Olympic games from Beijing in 2008 to London in 2012, have all sold out, the mint stated in an Aug. 20 report.
Mintages are 3,250 gold proof coins, 30,000 silver proof coins and 3,000 silver piedfort proof coins.
Among the owners of the precious metal versions of the coin is Guo Jinlong, the mayor of Beijing, who was presented with his coin by Boris Johnson, mayor of London, in August of last year.
The BU version of the Handover coin is still available. An official London 2012 product, it is adorned with the London 2012 logo. The Handover coin was the first ever U.K. legal tender coin to feature the Olympic flag emblem.
For collectors with their hearts set on a precious metal coin with an Olympic theme, there is still the chance to purchase the 2009 Countdown to London 2012 £5 coin and the new Celebration of Britain Silver series.
