Mint Brings End to Most 2008 Bullion
 | By Numismatic News December 01, 2008 |

Mint supplies of 2008 American Eagle and Buffalo bullion coins are gone for the rest of the year with two exceptions: the one-ounce gold American Eagle and the one-ounce silver American Eagle.
This was announced Nov. 24 in a memorandum to the Mint's authorized purchasers.
Allocations of the two remaining bullion coins will continue, the Mint says, because demand is still running ahead of the supply. The final weekly allocation for these 2008-dated coins will occur on Monday, Dec. 15.
Because of the unprecedented demand and the Mint's inability to acquire blanks to meet it, when sales begin for 2009-dated coins, the only two coins that will be available will be the one-ounce gold and silver American Eagles.
For these two 2009-dated coins, allocation will begin Monday, Dec. 29. Pricing occurs Dec. 30 and they can be picked up Jan. 2, 2009.
"The quantities of blanks that we have been able to acquire from our suppliers continue to be very limited, while demand for bullion coins remains high," the Mint stated in a memorandum. "As a result, it is necessary for the United States Mint to delay the launch of other bullion coins until later in 2009. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed as additional information becomes available."
