 | By Bank Note Reporter November 10, 2008 |

A Currency Commission: Consolidated issues The Northern Bank Ltd. five pounds note, May 6, 1929, 01OK 010031, with Brennan-Knox signatures (P-33a) brought a hammer price of £4,800 ($8,290) on Oct. 2 in Dix Noonan Webb's first installment of a three-part sale of the Bob Blake Collection of Irish bank notes. The note, which was cataloged as "lightly pressed, otherwise about very fine, rare," had a pre-sale estimate of £2,500-3,000 and served as the auction catalog's back cover illustration.
A rare The Bank of Ireland 10 pounds, U/14 10534, July 23, 1887, signature of Henry (?), P-A27a, in very fine to good very fine crossed the block at £3,500 ($6,045).
Bringing £3,200 ($5,527) was a Currency Commission: Consolidated issues The Provincial Bank of Ireland Ltd. 10 pounds, May 6, 1929, 01PT 011529, Brennan-Hume Robertson signatures (P-40a) that had a small penciled number on the back and was lightly pressed "otherwise very fine."
Also sought after was a Currency Commission: Consolidated issues The Hibernian Bank Ltd., Dublin, 10 pounds, Dec. 5, 1931, with Brennan-Campbell signatures (P-16a) that in good fine sold above estimate for £2,900 ($5,009).
