Don't Forget About Circ. Coins in Top Grades
 | By David C. Harper, Market Update May 20, 2008 |

Silver dollars have always been popular, but collectors in recent months seem to be looking to Standing Liberty and Barber quarters, Lincoln cents and all Seated coinage.
Better yet for the average collector, the condition of sought-after coins are not in the top grades, but in the top circulated grades.
I have nothing against registry sets, but only one person can have the best and maybe another dozen or two collectors can be in contention for the honor. What of the tens of thousands of average collectors? They are active and they focus on assembling some very beautiful sets.
They also don't need to worry that a sudden appearance of a carbon spot on, say, a Proof-69 1961 cent renders it virtually unsalable.
By focusing on these top circulated grades, collectors save themselves a great deal of expense, but still get all of the benefits and satisfaction that comes from completing a set and sharing in the coins' historic price appreciation.
And what of silver dollars? Relax. They never remain out of the limelight for long.
