By World Coin News
September 10, 2007

The 36th Annual New York International Numismatic Convention will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel Jan. 5 - 13.

The event features multiple auction sessions as well as a four-day world and ancient bourse area, which features dealers from around the world.

Auction lot viewing will open Saturday, Jan. 5, when Heritage Auctions showcases the material it will sell Jan.6 and 7. Gemini, Ltd, a joint venture by dealers Rob Freeman and Harlan Berk, will hold it session Jan. 8. Classical Numismatic Group will hold a multi-session auction on Jan. 8 and 9. A consortium consisting of M&M Numismatics, Baldwin's, Ltd. and Dmitry Markov will sponsor a two-session sale on Jan. 9 and 10, while Ponterio and Associates will follow with sessions on the evenings of Jan. 11 and 12. The 2008 NYINC auction offerings will conclude on Jan. 13 with a sale sponsored by Vilmar Collectibles and La Galerie Numismatique.

"There is no numismatic convention anywhere in the world that can rival the NYINC auctions for scope, quality or significance," said Kevin Foley, Bourse Chairman of the NYINC, of the event's auction schedule. "Our multi-company format gives the numismatic community an opportunity to participate in a multiplicity of sales offering in a single week more material than can be found at any similar event on the numismatic convention calendar."

Rick Ponterio, President of the NYINC, added, "Our bourse area gives NYINC attendees an opportunity to interact with dealers from around the world they won't come in contact with at any other numismatic convention in the United States. Collectors save their money just to attend the NYINC. The booth holders respond by holding back really special items to unveil for the first time in New York. The level of excitement and commercial activity on the NYINC bourse floor is difficult to believe. At times it can be as noisy as the trading floor of one of the major commodities exchanges."

Bourse activities get underway on Thursday, Jan. 10, with the Professional Preview, open from 2-7 p.m. During the preview, dealers and collectors without booths are admitted before the general public and have early access to the booth holders' latest purchases. There is a $100 registration fee for the Professional Preview, payable at the event site. Attendees are required to present a government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state or provincial identity card or a passport for admission to the preview.

Public bourse hours will be Jan. 11 and 12, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $10 for a three-day pass.

Special room rates are available to NYINC attendees at the Waldorf of $258 or $285, depending on accommodations selected. Reservations by Dec. 3 by calling the hotel directly at (212) 35-3000, mention that they are attending the New York International Numismatic convention and request rate code "NYC."

Foley said the event is international in scope with last year's bourse featuring dealers from 11 foreign countries. The 186 Professional Preview attendees came from 18 countries and public attendees came from 22 countries.

The NYINC bourse area is sold out, but dealers specializing in world or ancient coins should call Foley at (414) 421-3484 to have their names added to the waiting list. Information about the NYINC is available at the convention's Web site, www.nyinc.info.
