Widely found in south-west and inland south-east Australia, the Splendid Fairy-wren inhabits dense shrubs and woodlands. Living in small groups, this active bird hops and bounces among the undergrowth in search of insects and seeds. The species is noted for several interesting behavioral characteristics, including a courtship display in which male wrens will pick pink or purple petals and display them to females.

Past birds depicted in the series are the Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo the Budgerigar, Regent Bowerbird and the Rainbow Lorikeet.
