Add the clad half dollar to the silver dollar and gold $5 in the 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program that will be saucer shaped with convex/concave surfaces.

The U.S. Mint announced this decision May 7.

All three denominations share a common reverse that resembles the surface of a baseball, stitching and all. This will be on the convex side that bulges outward.

A design competition with a submission deadline of May 11 is in the process of determining the common obverse design that will be on the concave side.

The U.S. Mint previously had confirmed it could strike the silver dollar and gold $5 with the convex/concave surfaces.

“Our commitment to innovation in coin design and manufacturing goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to providing the best value and customer service possible,” said Acting Mint Director Dick Peterson.
