20 Euro Silver, Children and Creativity

This Children and Creativity Commemorative Silver 20 Euro Proof Coin not only recognizes the significance of children and a creative spirit, but it embodies those sentiments having been designed by a 17-year-old student in Finland. It was also recognized as the 2012 Coin of the Year award recipient for Most Inspirational Coin.

The coin, one of 10 coin designs selected by a panel, and then voted on by visitors to the Mint of Finland's website, depicts "a moment when an impossible thing comes to pass and another goals is set," according to the artist Roope Määttä. This coin is the Ethical Collector Coin series by the Mint of Finland, and it features the image of a young person holding the moon in their hands with stars in the background as its obverse. It's reverse features a design of the surface of the moon with the footprints of a person left in the dust, beside a colorized planet – which is meant to represent the importance of creativity in the world. The specifications of the coin are:

  • Metal: Silver (Ag .925)
  • Weight: 33.62 g
  • Diameter: 38.61 mm
  • Mintage: 10,000
