Simmons Gallery offers Coin Weights and Scales in Mail Bid Auction

The Simmons Gallery of Leytonstone, London, England will be offering a mail bid sale of 433 lots of coin weights and coin scales on June 10, 2009.

Weights are an interesting and often overlooked part of the hobby of numismatics. They are the "man in the field" counterfeit check at a time when coinage was often irregular in shape, thus the weight really mattered.

The weights offerered include British, French, Portuguese and others. Some Ancient and Byzantine items are also offered. Scales, folding balances and rocker balances are featured.
