Made it Home Through the Snow
February 01, 2011

While Chicago battens down for the winter storm that will hit the city later today, I am grateful that I made it through O’Hare airport late yesterday with three of my colleages on our way home from the World Money Fair in Berlin.

Yesterday morning did not start out so promisingly.

We arrived and checked in at Tegel Airport for our 10:05 a.m. flight to Duesseldorf only to be recalled from the gate because bad weather there was going to delay the flight’s arrival until after our connecting flight to Chicago had left.

We were rerouted through Copenhagen. Now I have a new Danish stamp in my passport even though all I did was walk from the arrival gate to the departure gate, with the immigration officers stationed in-between.

The detour also provided me my first opportunity to fly SAS and I was impressed with the level of service.

It was snowing in Appleton when we touched down at 9:35 p.m. and it intensified as I drove Tom Michael to his home in Scandinavia, four miles south of Iola.

I arrived home at about 11:20 p.m. and did a little quick shoveling to facilitate entry to the garage.

That was the bad news.

The good news is that as far as snow is concerned, that was pretty much it.

The sun is out this morning and it illuminates the pile of material on my desk that I brought home from Berlin. It will take me longer to get through it than to shovel yesterday’s snow, but tired as I am, I am pleased to be home and to be able to do it.
